http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?xa=./webapps/ROOT/news/main/data/031310GeorgeKontos.xmlGeorge Kontos (Joliet, IL) celebrated his 56th birthday in style, posting a 760 score in singles on Friday to move him into second place in Regular Singles, but more importantly, with a 692 in doubles and 621 in team, grab a share (with Matt Smith of Altoona, IA) of the Regular All-Events lead with a 2,073 score. Kontos is no stranger to national championship success @ the NBS, as he was a member of the Joliet Town & Country Lanes team that shared, with K J Excavating of Toledo, OH, the 2001 Regular Team title.

http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?xa=./webapps/ROOT/news/main/data/031610PorterAngel.xmlPorter Angel IV (27, Orlando, FL) picked a great time and place to throw his first competitive 300 game...yesterday at the 2010 Open Championships. His 300, the second of the tournament, came in Game 1 of doubles, and he finished out with 182 and 203 for a 685 series, teaming with Raymond Turgeon of Casselberry, FL for a 1,115 effort.

Lots to get to today... http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?xa=./webapps/ROOT/news/main/data/032010JasonSchwartz.xmlJason Schwartz (21, Belvidere, IL) missed a chance at 300 in doubles with a 288, but got a second opportunity in singles and made the most of it for the third perfect game of the tournament on Saturday. It was Schwartz' first Open Championships appearance. He will be bowling for McKendree University when the school makes its first-ever appearance at the Intercollegiate Team Championships next month. http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?xa=./webapps/ROOT/news/main/data/032110UdahlandHall.xmlTerry Hall (Rocklin, CA) and Andrew Udahl (Elk Grove, CA) posted a 1,421 total to move into the lead in Regular Doubles. Hall led the way with 259-246-208=713, while Udahl contributed a 258-232-218=708. The pair have been bowling together at the Open Championships since 2007. http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?xa=./webapps/ROOT/news/main/data/032110RobBaileysProShop.xmlTeams from Wisconsin always seem to do well at the Open Championships, and another one, Rob Bailey's Pro Shop 1 out of Sun Prairie, WI took the Regular Team lead Saturday night with games of 1,122, 974, and 1,106 for a 3,202 total. The team came out on top of a four-way battle for the lead in the same squad in which the closest competitor was, ironically, their companion team, Rob Bailey's Pro Shop 2, who posted a 3,102 to move into third place in the event.

http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?xa=./webapps/ROOT/news/main/data/032210BrianNicodemus.xmlBrian Nicodemus (35, Akron, IN) started his Open Championships campaign Sunday in the best way possible: a 300 game to open his team event, the fourth perfect game of the tournament. He followed it up with games of 201 and 202 for a 703 series, helping his Barnaby's Pizza team to a 2,898 total. http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?xa=./webapps/ROOT/news/main/data/032210ShannonPluhowsky.xmlPBA Women's Series star and Team USA member Shannon Pluhowsky moved into the lead in Regular All-Events Sunday night, posting a 642 in team, 740 in doubles, and 701 in singles for a total of 2,083. She cracked the top 10 in four events, as her Capri Lanes team (out of Dayton, OH) took over 7th place in Regular Team (3,073) and 9th place in Team All-Events (9,171), while she teamed with Megan Kelly (Huber Heights, OH) to take 8th place in Regular Doubles (1,361).

http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?xa=./webapps/ROOT/news/main/data/032310Montoya.xmlRandall Montoya (Albuquerque, NM) and Alan Johnson (Pleasant Prairie, WI) are mentioned together in the same article because they both had the lowest sets they've ever bowled on the Open Championships lanes in their team event, but found a way to strike in doubles Sunday and make headlines. For Montoya, it meant teaming with Kenneth Stephens (Frankfort, KY) to take over the Regular Doubles lead (Montoya posted a 760, the best set of his tournament career, to help the pair post a 1,434 total). For Johnson, it meant ending his doubles event with 11 straight strikes en route to the tournament's first 299 game.
