I think the "two-handed," style of bowling is getting more popular because it is different looking. Not everyone likes the look of the "one-handed," style or have trouble mastering it. Additionally, the "two-handed," style allows the bowler to generate an even greater hook with the Hook-in-a-Box balls.

Personally, I think that if "two-handed," bowlers can learn to apply things that "one-handed" bowlers can like axis rotation and whatnot consistently and effectively it will be excepted more. Also there is an issue with getting the reaction to match the condition as well as, spare shooting. If those issues are addressed by your everyday "two-handed" bowler then again, I think it will be accepted. We'll see though. It also may depend entirely on how well or not Belmo and Osku do in the PBA. I guess it may not be the innovation in the sport a lot of us were expecting, but it is getting the sport some more coverage in my opinion.

BTW, I prefer watching Osku over Belmo any day. Osku is much better in my opinion.

At the end of the day, what matters is hitting the pocket and carrying all ten pins. The sixty feet before that is just for show!

If someone can roll a ball straight up 5th board at 12mph, hit the pocket and carry all ten, then are then does that make them any worse a bowler than someone who rips the cover off the ball with 650+ revs and bowls it at 25mph with the same result.

One of my friends favourite sayings is "It's not how, it's how many!"

Well that's what it boils down for me as well. It makes no difference how you bowl as long as you carry all ten pins as consistently as you can.

There's a kid in the league I coach in that uses two hands very well. He normally plays the lanes very straight with one hand. He saw two hands as an avenue to learn how to play patterns that require him to hook the ball more. Now he has quite a tool box to work with. Unfortunately, the guy in charge of the league came down on him about switching styles. He was told that two handed bowling is an official style much like bowling left handed and right handed. He was told he couldn't switch back and forth. I thought that was kind of unfair. He wasn't trying to be a clown. He takes the sport seriously. And plus it is a league where you are being coached. I thought the main point of the league was to teach? But I guess you still have to follow USBC rules. Oh well.

2 handed is not a different style - you have a dominant hand, and that is your handedness. You can use 1 hand or 2, with your dominant hand. The guy in charge is wrong, and probably just being bull-headed about 2 handed bowling.

SS, I saw nothing on Bowl.com USBC Youth rules about 2-handed. Only that you can't switch from right to left without approval if you're injured, and you have to establish a new avg.. Ask him to show you the rule. I agree with cg about the guy being bull-headed. At a time when bowling needs all the new blood it can get he's pi**ing in the wind;)

Better swing, more accuracy, and more spares.

Yup, this the the truth. USBC released a statement about it either early last year or late the year before. As long as the ball is still swinging on the same side of the body it is legal, like Palermaa does when shooting spares. Basically as long as the fingers from the same hand are inserted in the ball and swung on the same side.

When Osku bowls, he cups his wrist when he brings it back.
My question is, "Does the ball touch his lower arm above the wrist?"

I've tried cupping it, and I don't know which to do: touch the lower arm or do not touch the lower arm.

Anyone?
