Has anyone had success throwing a bigger hook in the box ball straight for spares?

Call it laziness, a challenge, or just plain stupid, but I kind of prefer just the one ball arsenal and as such have been using my current ball (brunswick wizard) for both my strikes and straight spares (more speed, less tilt).

I was looking for a newer more dynamic ball (mutant cell in particular) and was just curious if I can continue to do this with any degree of success, or are the newer more aggressive balls just too dynamic and won't go straight at all?

You can do it with any ball. It's really a matter of changing a few things (speed, axis rotation etc.) and then accuracy. I did it with the Mutant's predocessor the Cell for a while. If I wanted to I could have to tracks on all of my balls.

I throw whichever reactive I'm using for my strike ball for spares as well. Just come straight up the back.

Any ball will go straight. I don't use a spare ball. I play left side spares off of the strike line, and hook it over. Right side spares... just throw it straight, hand up the back, palm up. However, the more aggressive the ball, the greater the chance of the ball jumping left of the 10 pin when you accidently give it a tiny bit of turn. (Yeah, a few times.) grin
