Took a couple of quick short videos of the ball and found that my strike ball speed is about 14mph and spare ball speed about 20mph.

Mine are about 11 and 14,respectively, on the radar.

14 and 20? You are gunning the spare. That seems like a wide gap.

The difference between 14 and 20 is huge. Your spares shouldn't be that much faster.

According to a recent video my strikes are 17.8mph, and my spares are 19.9mph. This is of course average speed not initial velocity so the difference in speed wouldn't be as big if it speed from off the hand.

The origin of my spare shot came from when I left unmakeable splits and would throw as hard as possible at them, and found that I could get the count, no matter which pin, more times than I could make those spares normally. So I started using it on all my spares. I had to slow it down a bit because I was dropping the ball and losing my balance sometimes, but it's still working pretty well.

Single pin spares just need contact with the ball no matter the speed, and multi pin if you make contact in the correct spot you can pick them up. This is not talking about the luck shot of trying to trip the 7 or 10 by banking a pin off the wall. Thats different.

Problem with changing your spare speed and strike ball speed is your rhythm gets messed up. Fast, slow, fast slow. I try and throw about the same. Of course the plastic ball maintains speed better so at the pins the reading will be different.

Mine is about 17 and 19 mph. The ONLY time it will exceed that on spares is if Im trying the improbable 7-10 bank shot. But usually I will go for the 7 pin and call it a day.

I'm very slow(11-12) but there's no difference between my strike speed and my spare speed that I've noticed

I understand, and no, I don't have any trouble throwing the ball straight. I'm just comfortable with that style and my spare shooting has improved significantly these past few weeks. Like I've said, I did have to slow down a bit from what was probably 21-22mph.
