Had a (relatively) great week, going 174-187-197. That's something like my 10th 190 game this season, and still no 200.

Tonight's play by play. After a good start to the night, a 201 things went down hill fast in the second game and stayed that way the rest of the night. I then had games of 147 and 142 for a 490 set. I could repeat a shot the first game and made some good moves but started having issues doing so after that. I'd throw a good shot one frame and then the next do something that caused a bad shot.

I wanted to go in and roll a few practice/warm up games before league but had to help my brother pick up a new refrigerator and then help him get it into the house.

Haha only 10 190s? I can't tell you how many times I have hit 190 this year to throw it away in the 9th or 10th. I have yet to hit 200. I know it will come very soon. I only have like 4 weeks left in my league not including state and city tourneys. I really thought I had 600 today. I started 187 then 185 and heading into the 3rd game I had a good line and was repeating shots well and shooting spares well. I just fell apart. To end 176. It just seems like every time I get close to 200 I get some sort of stupid split like the first 2 games today. I don't know if I get nervous about possibly getting my high game or some weird random dry patch shows up and causes my ball to go through the nose. I am thinking its the first one though thumbsdown

NN, I've thrown away more than a few 200s from bad 10th frames or fill balls, so I really do know what it feels like.

I did shoot a sanctioned 207 (1 open frame) and a clean 202 with 6 9-spares and only 1 double, both in tournament play.

Today, my 197 came as I only needed a mark and a good count in the 10th frame (working off a double). Got a spare and needed 9 to get 200 even, but pulled the shot way right and crossed over for a 6-count.

Last week I needed a spare-strike in the 10th to get 200 even. Got the spare then hit the pocket flush only to leave a 10-pin (left-handed).

Earlier in the season I only needed SEVEN to get 200 but the last ball went way wide, leaving the clothesline 6-count.

Oh well... at least I've been throwing pretty good shots lately.

Yep. I definitely know how you feel. I throw one away every week it seems. Then when High school was going on it was every practice. It is really a bad feeling when you go clean up until the 9th or 10th.

Well I believe I found out why the lanes for league last night were a bit squirrelly from the get go. I tried to take a nephew to bowl today and try to get some practice in myself. There was a college tournament going on that is ran by one of the local colleges every year at this center. It usually runs both Saturday and Sunday. Our center only does a fill shot before leagues start so I'm guessing it was a house fill shot over the sport shot they used for the tournament.

222, 218, 266 = 706

It was a good night. I was able to keep the ball in the pocket all night. I kept my calm though a number of pocket 7's, and was happy to make all my 7 pin spares. I settled down the last game to finish strong, helping our team win the last game by one pin.

158-158-145 = 461. 4 opens each game, most washouts and splits but some not. Only difference between game 3 and the first 2 was that game 3 didn't have any strikes. frown On a positive note, the league president came by to say hello and to ask me why he couldn't hear me 5 lanes away. I smiled at him and told him I'm trying to be quieter and not get so down on myself. Need to keep that up. smile

My team swept. This was week 11. I'm averaging 161 now. Every time I have bowled 480 or better, we've gotten our @sses kicked. Every time I've bowled below 480, we've swept. nut

Opponents gave us a buttload of pins. Their 225-avg guy bowled directly opposite me. He shot 741...started w/a 290 and had 18 straight strikes at one point before leaving a 4-6-10, cursing loudly and punching the ball return HARD. I stepped up on the left lane, put it dead-flush and struck. That felt good. grin

He finished w/a 206 in which he intentionally threw away a couple of spares out of anger. He then later had the gall to say he should have shot 800. Uh, the series is 3 games, buddy, not 2.

Used the Blue Hammer 2001 all night -- never took the others out of the bag. That was a mistake. On Wednesday (submission night for the virtual league), I'm bringing only the White Dot this week. A very good and longtime friend who I recently convinced to join this forum told me on the phone tonight something very interesting. He thinks I'm forcing myself too far out of my comfort zone, doing something that's just not working for me. He repeated an earlier remark to me that I should just do what feels best for now, work on adding to that in practice and slowly incorporate other things into league once I feel more confident in them.

Right now, the only ball I'm confident in is the White Dot. The Freeze certainly isn't dead, but it only moves a hair more than the White Dot does. Again, that's my lack of hand. I could hook most of the lane w/the Hammer 3 nights ago w/out doing much and stay around the pocket, but that was on bone-dry lanes. Couldn't do either of those things tonight.

Also, I'm seeing a new coach for the first time on Tuesday. Hopefully, it'll go OK. If it doesn't, I'm screwed. She, and the one I've already seen who couldn't immediately identify the most major thing you all saw that I'm doing wrong, are the only 2 anywhere around.

Don't give up, Mike. You're making good progress, trust me. Try hard, but understand that you can only go so far each time. Stay more or less within your comfort zone when scores count. Whenever I get too far ahead of myself I bowl terribly.

I think the Freeze should hook a lot more than your plastic ball, unless the lanes are so dry that it's rolling out. Have the same mentality as if you were throwing your White Dot.
