I am going to have my first ball in at least 15 years drilled.

Is there any important info i need to ask or relay pertaining to my ball getting drilled?

The ball in question is a Storm Fast.
Any help or advice would be appreciated!

The best thing you can do is find a good Pro Shop. Ask around as there are many subpar shops out there. Also Know what you want the ball to do, and have them drill it with a slug and grips- not directly into the ball.

What is the advantage of not having the slug and grips not drilled directly into the ball?

A slug is a round piece of vinyl or urethane that is put into a ball. Instead of drilling your thumb hole directly into the ball, you can just drill it into a slug. The slug gives a more consistent feel (core and coverstock feel different on a ball). You can also change out a slug without plugging the hole. If the hole doesn't have to right pitch or is too big or something else, you can change it for 10 bucks and 5 minutes instead of 2 days and $30 to plug it. Also, ask to get an oval thumbhole instead of a circular one. As for grip inserts, those are so you can get more lift on the ball.

Good choice Dago I like my Fast on wood lanes and drier synthetic lanes. Just watch your speed and play a little further out on fresh oil. Good luck and Bowl up a Storm.

Thanks for the info mikhial. Really oval holes? Doesn't that make the ball harder to grip?

Thanks ewn51! I cannot wait.

Thumbs are oval. With an oval thumb hole, you will get a good fit on all sides. Otherwise the hole will be too big back to front.

Not everyone has oval thumbs so an oval thumb hole isn't always necessary. Some drillers don't know how to do them either.
