I used to run one (a small one) in our Friday night league. Basically cut it into 3 rounds over 3 games. Say you start with 20...after the first game you cut half the feild (lowest scores of course). now you have 10. 2nd game cut half again now you have 5 guys going into the final game. depending on how many spots you're paying out depends on who wins what. With a feild of 20 i usually paid 3 spots. 1st was about 70%, 2nd was about 20% and third was 10% of the total in the pot.

If yoiu start with an odd number of people say 21 you still want to cut half the field but since you can't get exactly half i would cut 10 after first round leaving you with 11. 2nd round cut 5 leaving you with 6 and then a 6 way shoot out for the 3 money spots.

that was exactly my plan. i have a small friday night league and the guy that used to run the eliminator doesn't do it anymore so I am thinking about getting into starting one up...did you do 5 bucks a man?

Typically 2 buck but only because we ran 4 brackets along with it so it made it an even $10. If we didn't get enough for brackets then i would run a 5 or 10 buck eliminator or high series or whatever

FYI, in a handicapped league, I see a lot more participants getting in a handicapped doubles pot. Run it just for the second game. And announce sign ups through the first game, and the winners through the third game. It keeps a lot of awareness and interest, and the winners can be congratulated through announcements, that again, elevate interest.
and, people can enter multiple times with many partners, which raises the payouts.

Excellent way to get more people interested in a "pot" game

The only pots that get any participation in my league are doubles pots. I run a Eliminator but I call it a Survivor. $5 a person. Pay top 2. 66%\34%. I round towards first place. I cut to half each game rounding up. If I have 21 people, I take 11 to the second game and 6 to the last. At first, I was only getting 15 people or so. Last few weeks, I have been getting more. I tell people this. You don't need big scores to get to the final. Average + 10 + handicap normally makes it through. Consistency gets you through. Last game, I have had 270 games win and I have had 210 games win. Depends on the night.
