I rarely leave a 7-10 split, however when I do there are usually a few of them. I left 4 in one game not long ago, and had two back-to-back this past Sunday.

I know a 10 pin means I'm a little light in the pocket, and an 8 pin means I'm a little heavy. What does the 7-10 mean?

Seems to happen to me if I hit the headpin dead center or nearly so, I am sure the more experienced guys on here can give you more info.

Do you mean Pocket 7-10's or just 7-10's in general. In general going through the nose can cause 7-10's. Pocket 7-10's are just a [censored] break. a weak 7 and a weak 10 at the same time. or ringing 7 and 10 at the same time. That's my opinion.

There are multiple reasons for pocket 7-10 splits. Sometimes its a late break ball that comes in at a hard angle but is low on the head pin, leaving a ringing 10 and the 4 gets pushed straight back or actually toward the inside and nothing touches the 4. Other times it can be a high hit with very little angle. Like several leaves in bowling, there can be multiple ways of leaving it.

Late reaction and no fingers. Usually when I don't get all of it at the release point, the ball will react late and come in behind the head pin with not much on it. This is the only time I leave pocket 7-10's. Yes its a bad break but also not a surprise when it happens. Fortunately it doesn't happen to me all that often. I am more prone to the high hit and 4-9, through the nose big-4, or the ever popular light hitting 2-8-10.

I leave several pocket 7-10's at one particular alley, and rarely at others. I've been known to have 3-4 a night sometimes at this bowling alley It sucks.

i dont get 7 10's very often maybe one a month one every 2 months but i am probably the only one who enjoys getting them.

Things that cause a 7-10:
1. Ball a pinch too high in the pocket
2. Ball a pinch too light in the pocket
3. Ball loses too much energy before hitting the pins
4. Ball is still hooking/skidding as it hits the pins
5. Ball is over revving causing it to skid through the break point and come in behind the head pin with too much hook/skid
6. Incorporated with 5 above; ball has too much speed for the rev rate of the ball
7. not enough rev rate causing the ball to hit flat and get rejected by the pins

Seems that I leave the 7-10's when my speed is down - usually it's when I'm tired, this past Sunday due to a back injury.

Bowling on 1 and 2 after a tournament was no help - I was told the lanes were stripped and not regularly dressed, resulting in a snappy back end to boot. Could not believe the action I was getting on every piece of equipment I own.

Managed to muster up a high game for #3 to take 2/4; the adjustment was a straighter line and moving my mark a few feet down the lane for a faster ball speed. Just enough to tie the series and stay safely in second place (position round against 1st place team).
