spectral, instead of going full speed and ripping your shoulder apart it would probably be a good idea to go at half speed for the first couple of shots. If the ball is hanging you are probably trying to over-do the backup motion. You don't need to see the ball backup across a large area, as the weight block will be working against you anyways. You simply want to see the ball slightly tailing to the right.

The object is to get the hand inside of the ball, you cannot backup the ball without it being there, therefore if you can do a backup you will learn to wait on the shot.

Try it again for a whole game, although this time start slow and don't try to hook it a lot, just a little roll. As you grow in confidence in the shot you can increase your speed.

I have not done the backup drill lately. The things I've been working on are "sitting down" with not so much forward back lean. Also, like you said, not pushing on the down swing. I've seen about 6" - 12" improvement but, like you say, still too anxious and impatient to wait on that slow gravity to work. This Monday I think I will work with my light ball with no thumb and backup drill with my regular ball (and being patient on the down swing).

Thanks all,

~ John
