Good shooting Russ, yeah I have been the same with spares lately in fact if its not a split I am 99% positive its going down when I step on the approach, and that is keeping me above my average I am very streaky on strikes sometimes five six a game next game 1 or 2.

My last 4 sets over the past 2 weeks:

Monday night: 668, 670
Wednesday night: 640, 640

Almost had triplicate tonight, too. 212, 212, 216. We needed the pinfall in the last game so I didn't try to get fancy on the fill shot.

Tonight's bowling, frame-by-frame (Link to series on BowlSK)

The skinny: I hit my AVG+1 yet again, but I was hoping for more after the first game. Splits and washouts mostly did me in, but I missed a makeable spare in each of the last 2 games, as well.

We had the team we had last week in tonight's position round, and one of their members was back tonight; he keyed a net win for his team against us tonight. Judging from the finish of the other matches, I think we ended the first half in 6th place.

Richie it looks like you are standing too far left for the angle you are trying to play. The farthest you should be standing to play the line you are playing should be no more than 22 to 24. You would need to drift 4 to 6 boards right in your approach to stand on 28 and aim at the 10 board. When you time it right you get good games, but when the line dries out it throws your angle off and the ball encounters the dry on the outside too soon.

You need to practice playing tighter lines this will make the adjustments you make work for you and not against you.
I suggest playing your normal line and see what board you are sliding on, and then starting your approach on that board and see if you can play the same line and get the same results.

First 500 in a while. 196-172-143 = 511. The first 15 frames were clean. Game 3 was wretched -- no strikes, both of the splits I left tonight plus 2 makeable spares that I screwed up.

Still, we took 2 games plus totals for 7 out of 9 points tonight -- of course, the opener when I rolled the 196 was the one we lost. brickwall

One of the guys on my team prebowled for tonight and shot 226 for game 3. Of the 5 of us on our pair who were actually physically there, the high game -- on the pair -- was a 166 by a guy who averages lower than I do. We had several guys averaging 195+ who were in the 150s or worse. Opposing captain, who averages 210, shot 162. One of my teammates, who'd shot 243 in game 2 and averages 197, followed it w/a 146. Just one of those Twilight Zone moments.

My spare shooting is coming back, thankfully. The practice has already helped. Sighting the object, then looking down at my mark at the arrows, then sighting the object again, then starting the approach, really does feel much more natural and fluid to me than shooting spares any other way. Covered 18/22 non-splits, including every single pin. Only 2 of the 4 misses were shots I wanted back.

Wed night,
Pretty blah night for me, not bad, not good. 190,232,174 for a 596. Could not strike in the first game for the life of me but was clean untill the 10th where I blew a 10 pin. Second game bounced back ok after opening in the first. In the last game had back to back splits in the 7th and 8th that put the kabosh to that game. But we took two games and totals for a pretty good start to the second half of the season.

I am bowling better lately, but I need to adjust to the lane conditions quicker than I do. Instead I force the issue untill its to late to recover. Need to work on that.

Wed nite league, 235, 147, 144:

First game my ball was riding all the way down the outside, then hitting the dry and snapping back to the pocket. It looked and felt great and the pins were exploding. Then I started hitting higher and higher in the pocket and I couldn't find the right adjustment. Tried moving left. I think I subconsciously starting trying to get more speed and probably lost my free arm swing, not really sure. Disappointing night overall as we went 1 and 3 to open up the 2nd half of the season. I did win the high pot for the 1st game though. I'll try to improve tonight for 1st night of virtual league. Go Team 3!

I started the first game with my ball looking like PDW was bowling instead of me. I had the side roll with the big left turn at the breakpoint. Needless to say, my ball went Jersey. I wasn't expecting this obviously. More hook than I'm used to. Release adjustment so I could keep the ball on the lane. series of single pins in the first game. Bad carry. I left single pins on a series of pretty good shots. All back row pins. I put together a double late for a 204 in a clean game.
Second game I hit the pocket on a consistent basis and struck most of the time. Left a 4-9 on a not so horrible shot in the ninth for my first open. 224
Last game I hit the pocket just on almost every shot. My carry escaped me once again. Missed 3 easy spares for a 183. Loss of concentration.
Hit the pocket 29 times and made 18 strikes. I missed 4 spares with 3 of them coming in the last game. No splits. 3 ringing ten pins and 3 flat tens. All made. Won only one match point. My opponent got a 700 series on me. We won only 1 game. Bad week.
A Storm is coming.
