When working with new bowlers do you like to teach them to bowling with a bare hand or do you suports & at what point do you decide That. What are the positives and negitives of both.

I believe the wrist support may deter from learning the proper release. A number of newbies I coached tend to get awed by center pros with "mechanical" wrists. Most of the time, they rely on the wrist supports completely, and are not able to learn the feel of a good release. It is common to see beginners finally discover the thumb to finger lag only after they try bowling without support. Just my 2 cents.

Great question Bossmoss!

Myself, I try to have the students learn without the wrist devices. I too want them to get the feel of a good release. The only time I will recommend a wrist device is if they aren't able to hold the wrist firm due to injury/age or a lack of muscle ability. Otherwise I feel that the bare wrist is best.
