I need a coach. But how to get one here in China?
There are some good bowlers here but they
don't speak English and the ones I met so far aren't
really coaches. Is it worth it to try to find a coach who
will work with me long distance using chat, email, and videos?

For starters, you can make a video of yourself and post it here. Make sure you get your entire body and from different angles. There're some very good bowlers here, plus several USBC Bronze and Silver level coaches.

Not sure how you would do that in China but you can get someone to help you do an Internet search in Chinese. Plus, you can ask the bowlers and staff at your center.

So if you don't speak Chinese very well how did you get your ball drilled, and how did you get them drilled with fingertip grip?

I'm not sure what to do about the video for here because China has you tube blocked. I have asked around about coaches and know one can recommend anyone so far. That's why I thought maybe I should just try distance learning with a native English speaking coach. How I got my ball drilled was just by using body language.

Oh wow, really? I remember immediately after the Sichuan earthquake last year, locals were uploading cell phone camera videos onto Youtube (which is how I learned of the news in the first place). Must've been pretty recent.

There're still plenty of other video hosting sites online, like Metacafe and Photobucket, Dailymotion, and plenty of Chinese sites.

Go to an Internet cafe, or bring a laptop to the bowling center (does it have Wi-fi or wired Internet?) and ask someone to help you do an Internet search of coaches in your area.

Oh, I thought we had to use you tube. I can post videos to other sites no problem. Thanks for that.

You have no idea how hard I will laugh if his ball fits his hand. I start off pretty much every bowling lesson with "Well I can only do so much because the ball doesn't fit your hand".

Believe me I have had to use some really good body language and hand gestures to get a ball drilled right here in this country. Maybe not speaking the language will at least save me from hearing for the 1000th time "Well I've been drilling balls this way since the 70s, and blah blah blah".

Hehehehe you are right. Sometimes it's better not to speak the language. When any of the people I know here take a taxi they have to discuss with the driver several minutes about where the destination is. I get in the taxi we leave immediately and I point right or left as needed. Much more efficient.

I think Jim meant that it's very hard to get a ball drilled to fit your hand well if you can't communicate with the driller in words.

You really shouldn't feel pain in your hand when you bowl. If you do it might be due to an incorrect span, or holes too open causing squeezing.

I meant it is hard to get a ball drilled to fit your hand even if you can communicate with the ball driller, that's why I would LMAO if his ball fits his hand properly and all he can do is body language and gestures. laugh

So anybody recommend a coach that will work with a student long distance? How about some of the services I see advertised like mybowlingcoach.com are they worth checking out?
