Tim, just remember that the game is just as much mental as physical, if not more so. Anyone can roll a ball down a lane and hit some pins, its takes mental preperation and focus to do it consistantly and accuratly. Don't get so down on yourself, if you don't believe in your own game, who will?

When I am having an off night, I will sit in a chair and stare at the lanes, I will invision myself on the approach getting ready to go through all the motions. I see the line I want to play, I can draw it from foul line to pocket and off the deck, I can see the oil pattern breaking down, and I know I am in the right part of the lane and I have no doubt that I am invisioning a perfect shot. First step goes, perfect length and body position remained intact, second step the push away is going and its dead on. Third step the ball is at my side and perfectly in line with my projected ball path. Fourth step my body is fully compressed, shoulders are slightly opened, balance arm is forward with my elbow slightly bent and thumb down, ball at the top of the backswing. And here is the slide, I finish exactly where I wanted, the ball comes off my hand clean and on line, it couldn't have been a better shot. Ball hits the target, begins to read the midlane and splits the boards at the breakpoint. Dead flush strike, 10 in the pit, no questions.

Then I just get up on the approach, forget about everything and go. If you can see yourself throwing a good shot in your mind you will be able to replicate it when the time comes.

Forgot to post my own scores haha...

Subbing last night 233-223-211 for a 667, not bad but I would have liked to make a ball change from the Cell Pearl to my Cell a little bit earlier in the last game. Now I know, when the angle gets too steep and I can't clear the corner pins with the pearl its time to bring out the solid and move 2-1 left.

Thanks Scott, and sk8
I went into last night extremely confident after some very good practices where I pounded the pocket over and over, shooting in the 230's, 250,s and making most spares. Opened the night with back to back splits, and I started thinking too much again, and babying my shot, instead of just bowling. Very dissapointed in myself really.

All I can do is lace em up again tonight. I'll come out of it, and when I do it will be fun again.

Interesting progression. I do just the opposite. Start off with the Cell, then when the lanes start to break down, go to the pearl or (more often than not, lately) the Rogue.

Rolled 259-201-213 673 last night. Had 2 splits and missed 2 10-pins for my only opens. But had a hard time dealing with how quickly the lanes dried out. After remembering I'd taken notes from earlier in the season, I broke out the notebook, stood where it said, and from then to the end I was solid.

Moved a LOT last night: I started with the cell standing with my right toe on 21 and ended with it on 34, all the while hitting virtually the same break point. In comparison, on Monday (different house) I started with right toe on 18 and ended with it on 23.5.

In a quandry over my league bowling lately. Last night rolled games of 248, 184, 181 for a 613 series. My other left-handed teammates rolled a 726 and a 737 series. We lost the 1st game, won the 2nd, and lost the 3rd. I am disappointed because if I had bowled my average we would have had a fair chance to win the 3rd game.

After the first game, I thought I finally figured out the new shorter/lighter pattern. I had brought an old, re-drilled Cherry Vibe and was banking it off the dry boards 7 and out to the gutter, using the extreme angle to create hold. Second game, I lost my line and ball reaction and stopped carrying. It may have something to do with the high-rev lefty on the team switching from plastic to urethane and looping his ball right through and around my line.

Third game, I moved in to the 14-15 board to try to create some distance between the other lefties' line and mine. Then, the ball started to hang up and not finish, and I started leaving corner pins and other 3-7-9 like leaves.

I have 2 new balls waiting to be drilled this weekend. Hopefully, one or both of them will help me get back on track.

Last night's bowling, frame-by-frame (Link to BowlSK)

I figure if it wasn't for the three splits in the second game, I might've had a decent night. I didn't necessarily avoid them in the first game, either, but I did convert on a 6-7 (the real highlight of the night for me). A move to a different pair, necessitated by a problem with the ball return (more on that later), also didn't help (and it seems the pair I was bowling on has been hit with technical glitches more often than the rest of the league this year). The thing I'm really not proud of about last night was the two single-pin misses in the third game, which would've made it an over-average night.

What happened with the ball return was that, somehow, a pin found its way into the ball return track, and eventually jammed balls at the point of the return proper. It cost one of my buddies the ball he uses most of the time; fortunately, he had a spare ball (spare in the sense of it being an extra one) and could continue without really having it affect his game. I'm hoping management springs for a new ball for my buddy, as I hate to see what happened to him happen to anyone.

I felt I bowled worse than I did because the rest of the team wasn't really doing well, either, and we were swept by "The Generations." Shawn, the secretary, told us that all of the top four teams in the league were involved in a match with another team in the group, and that the first-half race became even tighter as a result.

well, by golly, it was a good night out.

after mondays suffering, i went at things a little different.

i went back to my 'good bowling strategy', i.e. DO NOT look at the score monitor, watch for the person ahead of me to finish bowling so i can get up there, find my target, and do my thing.

went 181, 163,180, good night for me. second game could have been better, but lost the line a bit, and had a bunch of 7/ frames, one split, and missed a 10 pin by a whisker.

bit of a confidence booster, was able to flatten out my hand and make a few 10 pins, and made a couple 7 pins as well, and other than loosing the line for a bit, i felt i threw the ball fairly consistant, and was hitting my target for the most part, and the 'new' release is almost a non thought now.

lol, monday i was ready to give up, now i can't wait to bowl again!

Nights like I had last night are what make this sport so so frustrating but yet so exciting at the same time.

I have been on a downward spiral for the last 2 weeks which resulted in my lowest series for the young season with a 500 on the nose last week. Last night I proceed to struggle right out of the gate with a 153. Too many missed spares and cannot locate my strike line. Second game it gets even worse. Start coming in on the nose, have 3 splits and hit my lowest game in a month of Sundays with a 138. The old me would have folded like a tortilla but I decided if I was going to have my first sub 500 series in a long time I was going down fighting. I took a little more time on each shot and got my focus back and fired out a 236. If not for 9 and a wiggle in the 9th I would have strung 7 straight to finish out but as it was I had a turkey in the 6-8th and then the one-pin spare in the 9th and turkeyed out in the 10th.

The bad part was despite that good last game we lost all 3 games and the last one by 2 pins. The good thing is it taught me that I need to get back to that mindset of executing each shot. I have been kind of lackadasical again and I need to really concentrate on the basics of Execution to avoid those bad games.
