Dennis, how is your VG drilled? Maybe that ball just does not match up to your game and thats why you have trouble because I have absolutely no complaints about how mine reacts. I have had bowling balls that got great reviews that I absolutely hated and balls that others I knew hated that I loved. Some times the ball just does not mesh with our games well and it happens.

My VG is drilled in Storm's Tournament pattern. Pin over/right of RF and 4" from PAP. Why do you ask? I used it last Fri first game on fresh House oil for a 268, but had to put it down in game 2. It matched the pattern early. Maybe it would have been better on the oil last night, I don't know? The week before, they alerted us to a heavier oil spread, and it was. Don't believe it was as heavy this week.

I said the VG was the weakest ball I had, because it was, compared to my other 3 L/M balls I brought. It may have matched the lesser oil shot I faced last night better.

I'll try it next week when we bowl.

Dennis, I was simply asking because you talk about over/under and I know you have really never had a night where you seemed to really feel comfortable with that ball for the entire set.

I don't really have an over/under problem with mine so I was curious if it was a specific drilling that caused it or something. I was just curious if it was a shot specific drill or something. Thats all, nothing personal, I promise!

I have never rolled the Virtual Gravity, but have watched teammates and other bowlers with it. Layout aside, it appears to be a very strong cover, that gets into a roll early. My teammate who has one, and is a high rev bowler, never gets more than 6 frames out of it before having to switch balls.

Over the weekend, I was watching the Women's USBC Open, and I think that Liz Johnson was struggling because the VG was rolling up early on her. Nothing against the ball. I am sure it is a great ball on the right condition.

Solid night last night: 269-278-210---757
Started with the Complete NV in practice. I've been switching to the Black Diamond during practice as the CNV hasn't been turning the corner on a wet and relatively long pattern. Last night the CNV matched up from the start so the BD just sat and watched. 3-pin, 4 in a row, 10-pin, off the sheet for the 269. Started the second game with 5 in a row, 4-pin, then off the sheet until the fill ball 10-pin. Looked promising going into the third game but the right lane fried in the track area. I had been rolling 10 to 4 the first two games. The right lane rolled up early to start the 3rd game for a 3-6-9-10. Chopped the 3-9 off the 6-10. 10-pin second frame, double, then another 3-6-9-10 but spare this time. Turkey (including a jump over and to the left of the track on the right lane), then a 2-4-5-8 bucket on the right lane, spare, strike and finally went high on the left lane, 6-9-10 spare for the 210. Long time for a shot to hold up on 5-man teams wink Good carry and Execution most of the evening. Back to it again on Wednesday.

nice shooting guys!

i ever get my head screwed back on, i'm gonna have it, i think....

started with a 161, 4 ugly splits in an otherwise decent game-formwise.

2nd game, 199, clean. i think the scorer is broken, as i cannot eclipse the 200 mark, lol [like the 3rd week in a row for a 199 clean]

3rd game, mental lapse, 123 UGH

i see an alarming patern here, one game close to average, one game a near 200 and then a clunker, and in no particular order.

upside, as a team we took 3 of 4, so luckily my clunker games have not been hurting us.......yet

Nice set jbungard.

As for me, I have been fighting 2 things:
1. Seems my balls are too strong for some of the lane conditions, and I am too stubborn to go to lesser balls.
2. A physical problem with my back has severely limited my knee bend and slide.

Last night, after some real hard self evaluation on ball decisions, I decided to go with another ball, rather than my newer stronger balls. I pulled out my Conqueror. Got to the Pro Shop and changed grips to be ready to use it The Conqueror was always a steady ball. Never too high or too low, just steady and reliable.

First game was a get reacquainted game. And, we were having some fun finishing with 227. Second game was more of the same. And, I was really surprised that this ball handled the lane oil transition so well. Guess, I forgot.
Second game, I was sitting 195 in the 8th with a X in the 9th. And, that's when my second problem hit me. Went to roll my first ball in the 10th and pulled up after 2 steps with lower back pain. It was a sharp pain that caused me to grab my back and just not move. Rested for a few seconds, stretched, and tried to roll, 4-6-10. My first open, and missed the spare completely. I have been seeing a physical therapist for 3 months for this problem, and this was the first full week without therapy. 223 finish.
I debated whether to even roll the third game, but the rest between games seemed to help. 1st ball was Ok, but I had discomfort on the spare pick to cause me to miss. A strike made it feel better. Then a split as I was walking tentatively. The 4th ball, I pulled a Chris Barnes. The pain hit me in the down swing and I held on to the ball, swinging it over my head. Walked it off again. this went on for the entire game. 1 ball OK, and I didn't know when it would come back again. Finished with a 159. In retrospect, I shouldn't have bowled, but I didn't know the pain would return.

Guess I need another prescription for therapy. The problem is, my wife was early retired last month, without any medical benefits. I continued her family medical coverage under Cobra, but it now costs me $1488 per month, when it was $343 just a month ago. Gotta find an alternative.

Any advice from you other sexuagenarians is accepted. Still have a few years till medicare.
