i am pretty new to regular bowling, and recently took my brand new Ebonite vortex ball bowling the other day. i was never able to hook the ball, but this fitted ball helped with that. it took a couple games, and by the third i was over 200, having not been close before. in throwing the ball, i was not overly aggressive with turning the hand, and felt comfortable bowling that day. afterwards, i feel as if i strained my wrist somehow. could this be from cupping my wrist too much? and will a wrist support help with this?

Hi,this is bowling joel.
I just read your note on wrist support. I am having that same problem which started a week ago.
I am going to use a wrist support for two reasons.
1. to ease the pain which is not much but achy.
2. It will give me a good release almost everytime. There are exceptions. Your speed may
suffer as mine has on occasion. Hope this helps.

I know this is going to sound like an advertisement, but I started using a Pro Release about 2 weeks ago and I think it is worth twice it's weight in gold. I no longer have the soreness in my wrist and my release is much cleaner and more consistent. My scores are going back up as well!!

Joel, I have actually increased my speed as well as my revs since I started using the wrist support. I found it has really helped improve my game, and as soon as my spare shooting improves (when I get comfortable with a particular spare shooting system) I'll be set.

I have to agree with Kenny, with how great the Pro Release is. I'm sure it's not for everybody, but I'd say about 1/3 of the people that bowl league here use one.

I don't have the same results as Kenny with ball speed and revs. I have slower ball speed with it on and less revs, but my release is a lot smoother and consistent and my angle of rotation is higher so I get a bigger hook. I'm sure my revs and speed will come back, it's just a matter of me adjusting what I'm doing. I started bowling the outside of the lane a lot more and I think it may just be me babying the ball down the lane to avoid the gutter. Especially after a couple weeks ago when I had a 10 in the 3rd frame. Including a spare in the 2nd. Just got to laugh **** like that off.

A wrist device may help, but it may be "overcupping" of the wrist. Did you have problems like this before? You mentioned that you have a new ball. You may want to make sure that it is fitted correctly. If it isn't, that can also cause you to have pains all over your hand, arm, etc.
