Solid night in the 5-person Pony League: 259-212-214---685. Started with the first 6, then rung a solid 10, another strike, another ring 10, then off the sheet. Second game, I left a light 7 and missed it right. Legends Black Diamond all night. Started 10 to 5 on left lane, 9 to 5 on right. 8 righties burning up the track. Ended up 18 to 5 on the left lane and 16 to 5 on the right. I like to play around the track with something strong enough to recover. The Pony League is a handicap league albeit a good one. Still, many of the righties play all over the place. Some high rev players going 25 to 5, a couple of strokers going down 5 and everything in between. Playing to the right of the mess keeps me around the pocket. No splits, 2 opens (cherried the 2 and 4 off of the 2-4-5 and the 7-pin whiff. 24 strikes and 8 of 10 spares. Only second high on the pair. The other teams anchor, a lefty, rolled a solid 729. Our team went 0-7. We shot 3170 while the other team shot 3110 with 156 pins of handicap. (90% of the difference between the two teams sum of individual averages.) Average up 2 from 221 to 223 after 12 games. Next stop, Lakeview Lanes and the Senior/Open Classic on Wednesday evening late shift. laugh

My Black Diamond is over 50 games. I wipes the ball off with a microfiber towel before each frame and clean it with Lane Masters cleaner (the smelly stuff) and a microfiber towel after each set. Even so, the ball wasn't recovering as strong as it did out of the box through the first 20 to 30 games or so. I hit it with a white scuff pad (~1000 grit) with the ball and scuff pad wetted down with the Lane Masters cleaner. Then cleaned the residue with cleaner and a microfiber towel. This brought the ball back to out-of-the box reaction. Plenty of recovery with no loss of length. thumbsup

I re-started last night after my first summer break since I returned to the game five years ago. The break must have done me good because before the summer, although I was scoring reasonably well, I was not "confortable" on the lanes and I was having motivation problems.

Well, last night went well. I felt great, was really confortable, and felt that I rolled the ball well. Although my scores weren't that good (225, 231, 225 = 681) I really enjoyed myself (for once) and that can only be a bonus!

Nice restart, Jock. Hey, those scores ARE good. What do you mean, "weren't that good"? I'll take them every night out, if I can get them

jbungard, thanks for the cleaning tip on the Black Diamond.

Nice bowling jbungard and Jock. Dennis, did you figure out what went wrong? Sometimes after not bowling up to par, I will go over and over it in my mind to try to figure out what I could have done better. The most frustrating times are when I am unable to come up with an answer besides needing to diet and exercise more.

The most frustrating to me is when I stay after, and find the line I should have been playing. If I am lost in game, stay after, and still can't find anything, I usually feel a little better about it - at least I was performing up to my capability.

Nice Bowling Jock,

cgeorg,..
I hate when that happens, or worse yet you find a nice line say...the 8th frame of the last game...after struggling all night.

Last night was a night that was just disbelief. It started with a nice roll and a turn to the hole and resulted in a pocket 7-10. It was followed by a stone 10. I followed it with a 4-bagger. Then, I hit something I can't remember ever getting. On what seemed to be a good hit, I left a 7-9. I'm a righty, and I have never left a 7-9 on a pocket hit. Followed with a double, than a little high 4-9. The 4-9 was the worst ball I rolled. So, 6 strikes and 4 opens in the first game.

The second game went X-9-X-9-X-9-X-9 on my first ball. Just couldn't get that 1 lane, although each hit looked good, leaving 2-10's, an 8 and a 9.

A ball change didn't help either, although I did have 7 strikes, but 2 split opens. 7 strikes and I didn't hit 200 in the game.

I was getting a lot on the ball. My teammates were in shock at my leaves. I'll take the way I was rolling any other night.

Oh, I had a good line. I would move back a half step, then forward or a board either way. I didn't have to move much. My entry angle must have been too sharp, as my opponent rolled straight up 10 with great success. My break was at 5. According to the SK stats, I hit the pocket flush 85% but only struck 54%. My first ball carry count was 9.2. This would ordinarily have been a decent night.

The 7-9, 4-9, 9 pin, and ringing 10's suggest a ball driving too hard on the backend. The pocket 7-10 and 2-10 suggest a ball going wide and coming back hard, but late. I think you are correct in diagnosing your entry angle may have been too sharp. Psychologically, it's hard to make an adjustment for that since the ball looks great when it destroys the rack on a typical hit. One adjustment that is not obvious is to go to a ball with more surface so it burns off some of its energy sooner.

Thanks, Dennis.

By "not that good" I meant by the internet standards. There are so many 300 games, 230/240 averages, 700/800 series posted on this site (and other sites that I visit) that my "normal" scores don't seem to be THAT good.

I was quite pleased with myself, though!
