Ouch.

We finished 5th out of 16ish. If the 3rd place team had managed to win some on position night, we could have taken 4th, but they didn't help us out at all. 80 bucks a man at the end paid for my last week of bowling, the first 2 for fall, and a thumb slug replacement I needed. I just wish I would have had more time to take advantage of the free practice.

Yes, that was the best part of the mixed league that I bowled. They called it a "Gold Card" league which allowed participants to bowl free all summer.

I would typically allow 2 hours travel time from work to the league. With traffic, some days would require the whole 2 hours. But, most of the time, I would get there early enough to get a few extra games in.

I don't feel too bad about my team coming in last considering the top team only earned $50 per person, while last place earned $12. I think most of the prize fund went to the bowling center to cover the free bowling. Also, besides the missing team members, we had bowlers using a wrist brace for the first time, getting their first fingertip ball, etc. You know, typical mixed league stuff.

On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised my PBA Experience league paid $100 per bowler for finishing 6th out of 10. That helped pay for my entry into a $10,000 tournament this past weekend at Carolier Lanes, NJ. I didn't win, but left with $350 and a new Brunswick Siege bowling ball. The irony was the tournament shot played like the Cheetah pattern you see on TV, not the way my PBA Experience league sets it up.

Nice job! Now you can update the PBA average in your signature.

Went to sing up our team at the lanes. There was an overlap of bowlers with Fall league meeting, and the Summer league payout taking place at the same time. Ran into the fellow that I subbed for in the Summer, and he thanked me for that. the team ended up second, 1 point from first, and it came down to the final game, where the first place team had to lose 2 of the 4 points, while this team had to win all 4. That's head to head bowlers and team. This team only won 3 and lost by a point.

He thanked me, and handed me $10 of his $113 winnings, saying that he wouldn't have gotten that If I didn't bowl for him in his absence. Heck, he paid for my bowling, even paid for my USBC fee, since it was in another association, and paid for my Sport sanction upgrade for PBA. Nice guy.

We finished our Summer league last night in good fashion. We were in 2nd by 1.5 points after a miserable team outing last week. We werent going to be denied this time. We won the 1st game by 123, 2nd by 7 and last by 4. We took 1st place which is my only first place finish since moving to PA 4-5 years ago.

As for me I rolled 243-224-224, i screwed up another 700 on my last shot. I ended up with 6 out 13 series being 700+. I took league high average with 224 (personal best). I also took league high series (768) and tied 5 ways for league high game with a 279. (You only get $ for one category). My girl friend took most improved bowler and our other 2 bowlers each had cash awards. Not a bad night at all.

On a side note the pay out was week. It was a 14 week league, $20/week and first place paid $200/person. What ever happened to 1st, 2nd and maybe 3rd breaking even if not making $?

Nice bowling Mike. I know how you feel, I missed a seven series by a few pins twice this summer - 695,699

I agree, for first place, your total league fees should have been at least reimbursed. We finished towards the bottom in our PBAx league and received a little over a 1/3 of our total fees back last night. We finished first place in the Pro-Am league and we each received a dust collecting trophy because it was not a money league. I knew that going into it, but after busting our butts for first place, it just makes the whole effort seem meaningless. At least part of our Pro-Am fees went towards paying for a Pro-Am tournament which I'm going to tommorow night. From now on during the summers, I'm only going to join money leagues, or else I'll just open bowl.

Why are the payout schedules kept so secretive? It should be known to every bowler before they start. Before I enter a league, I always ask what the payout is. Usually, my question is met with blank stares. Don't understand that.

Why should I waste my time competing if the payout is not up to my standard? On a social league, I'm not there for the money, but, I still bowl to win.

I knew that my former Wed nite league paid $8.45 per team point on a 7 point system, plus individual awards. My teammate would keep Track of the team winnings each week. On a loss, he figured we lost $8.45.

Anyhow, nice bowling, Mike. I hope when I grow up, I am as good as you.

Dennis, That was exactly my frame of mind when I joined the non-money Pro-Am league. However, I realized after finishing the league that I need to be in a more serious focused atmosphere competing for a money payout. I'm not sorry I joined the league because I learned something about myself as a bowler.

I would also like to be as good as Mike, but I don't wanana have to grow-up to do so grin

Late to post....This Past Tuesday...679. Threw my black widow bite from 20 to 5. Bowled late shift league at the same house. 202 200 200. Lanes were fried and the shot was touchy. A bunch of crankers and straight bowlers were on the lane previously. Almost a triplicate haha.
