Bowled in a youth tournament today (A Loschetter, if anyone wants to know). Sadly, I'm I have to stay in the lower division to even think about making the cut. The format is 10 games today, and then the top 12 (out of 32) make it to bowl 12 more games of round robin match play tomorrow. After that, they take the top 5 to TV
style matchplay. The shot was the Shark and on these old lanes it played pretty dry.
I started off with my Rattler playing 14 to 10. The first game I shot a 215 with pretty much every shot in the pocket. The next two games, I started forcing the ball and making bad shots. That, combined with the changing lanes had me lost. I couldn't get a couple of consistent shots to make a decent read. I shot a 140 and 158. The next two games I was trying to relax my arm and find my line again. I tried a bunch of different lines. I ended up playing 16 to 8-10 for the majority of those two games. I shot 180 and 168 to shoot 861 for the first block. That put me ~70 under the cut. Coming back from the break, I started throwing my Smoking Inferno 12 to 5 and forced that shot for a game (176). After I realized that that was a horrible idea, I eventually moved inside to 18-10 which actually set me up for the pocket. I shot a 192 the next game and I was still about 70 out of the cut. The next game I made a quick 4-2 move left so I was playing 20 to ~10. Started hitting the pocket more and shot a 204. The next game I was playing the same line, but I should have made a move on the left game which took me until the 8th frame to make. Other than that, I shot about the same but a Greek Church in the 9th killed my score so I shot a 188. That put me to 35 out of the cut with one game to go. I kept the same line again, and kept hitting the pocket. Luckily, I was able to string some strikes together and shot a 222 to jump from 15th to 11th and into the cut.
As always, I started off slow and made up for it in the second set when the lanes broke down (861-982). Overall, I am proud of my bowling. Not because I made the cut, but for other reasons. My spare shooting was great. In 10 games I only missed two single pins and the 1-2-4. Everything else I missed was either a split or a washout. My mental game was also great. I feel like a much better bowler than I was a little bit ago. If I can start reading the lane better, I think my game will jump up a good deal
Anyway, I'll post an update tomorrow night after I finish bowling. I have 117 pins to make up for the top 5 which shouldn't be that hard since each match has 30 bonus points for winning.
